THE LATEST BIRDING REPORT (AUGUST 30)
We saw several good flocks with 13 species of warblers - B.T. Blue, Redstarts, Blackburnian, B.T. Greens, Tennessees, Chestnut-sideds, Hoodeds, Canadas, Magnolia, Parulas, Yellow-throateds, Black and White and Worm-eaters. We would have had 14 Warbler species if a skulking bird would have given us any kind of a decent look - it was either a Kentucky of a Common Yellowthroat. As has been the case in early migration, the most numerous were the Greens. A surprise was seeing at least three Yellow-throateds, the most I have seen in a migration flock in the mountains. These birds were accompanied by 17 other species - generally the usual Scarlet Tanagers, only one R.B. Grosbeak, etc. The only hawk seen was a Broad-winged. The birds were seen between 7:30 and 11 a.m. Needless to say, my visitor went back to Fla. a happy person... -Bill Haddad Events Sponsored by |
